New Tool:
Page Load Time Check
by Tom Dahm,

We've just launched our latest tool: Load Time Check. This new robot helps you optimize your site for faster download times.
Given the URL of your home page, our robot will test all of your site's pages, measuring the total size of each page's contents and the number of server connections required to get the page. Load Time Check will consider all the images, sound files, applets, and external scripts contained in each of your pages.
Our robot will estimate the time required to download a page at different modem speeds. Most Web designers have high speed Net access at their disposal. As a result it's easy to forget that 70% of Internet users browse the Web with a 56K modem or slower connection. A page that takes 5 seconds to load over your office T1 connection may take 40 seconds to load over a 28.8 modem!
Our Load Time Check robot will report the size of each object in your page and recommend steps to reduce its size, such as optimizing your graphics with GIFBot.
However, your loading time depends on more than just raw bytes of data. The time required for your page to display also depends on the browser's rendering time. So we've added features to Load Time Check to spot improvements to your HTML code that can make your page load faster. We'll tell you what tags and attributes you can add to make your page display more quickly, including HEIGHT and WIDTH attributes for your images and tables.
