Search Tip:
Use Gateway Pages
To get a high ranking in the big search engines you need to carefully select the keywords you use on your page. But this creates a problem - the more keywords you use, the more you dilute the relevance of any one keyword. How can you get around this? One very effective approach is to use gateway pages.
What's a gateway page? It's a page specifically designed for submission to a search engine. The page is tuned with a specific set of keywords, boosting the chance that these keywords will be given a heavy weight.

Gateway pages don't need to fit within the normal structure of your site. Since they're used only to help people find your site, they will act only as entry points. So you don't need to re-design the architecture of your site to accommodate them. A page with good content that just happens to also be keyword rich will make both human visitors and search engine spiders happy.
This technique is also very useful for creating pages that are designed for one specific search engine. Since different search engines use different rules to rank pages, it's often impossible to build a page that gets top score in all the search engines. You can get around this by creating a set of gateway pages specific to each search engine. Use Page Primer to help you optimize your page for specific engines.
Try using gateway pages in your site. Start with just one or two pages and see if they boost your search engine ranking. If you get good results, use more pages targeted at different search engines. Just be patient. Remember that it can take weeks for a new listing to appear in your favorite search engine.
